Gabriel Cordell’s Wheelin’ It Cross Country To Raise Awareness…

gabriel cordellA California man is taking an incredible road trip from Los Angeles to New York City. But he’s not making that trip in a car. He is rolling across the country, 33 hundred miles, 74 days, all in a standard wheelchair.

Paralyzed from the waist down, Gabriel Cordell is determined to inspire people along his journey. We caught up with him as he made his way through the valley.

If Gabriel Cordell makes it, he would be the first to do it.

“My ultimate goal is to affect and inspire people all over the world and make them realize that they don’t have to be held to their circumstances.”

Gabriel’s circumstance: paralyzed after a red light runner collided with his car.

“My jeep flipped over, I got thrown out I hit a telephone pole with my back and I was paralyzed from my waist down.”

He is also a former drug addict. Now clean and sober, he is hitting the road in his wheelchair to inspire people across the country.

He is documenting his journey — and believe it or not — he says the actual physical aspect of rolling his wheelchair hasn’t been the most difficult thing so far.

“Up until now there really hasn’t been an overwhelmingly challenging situation. It’s probably waking up at 2 in the morning and having to go all 20 miles.”

He still has about 3,000 miles to go. That may sound daunting, but he is ready for it.

“I’m no more special that the next person. I’m willing to dig deep down inside, that’s the difference between me and the next person, because you can do what I am doing.” –Fox News 10 Phoenix 2013
